Dubai Launches Al Layan Oasis, A Massive New Eco-Tourism Destination
Dubai announces the Al Layan Oasis, a 1-million-square-meter sustainable tourism hub featuring a man-made lake, outdoor cinema, and camping facilities.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has officially approved the development of Al Layan Oasis. This ambitious new eco-tourism destination, spanning 1 million square meters in the Al Marmoom area, aims to welcome 330,000 visitors annually, offering a blend of recreational facilities and sustainable desert experiences.
At the heart of the development lies a massive 250,000-square-meter man-made lake, designed to anchor a variety of outdoor attractions. The project will feature unprecedented desert tourism infrastructure, including 14 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks. Notably, four kilometres of these paths will be elevated by 5 meters above ground, offering visitors panoramic views of the oasis and seamless connectivity to existing routes in Al Marmoom.
The destination is divided into four distinct zones designed to cater to diverse visitor needs. The Gathering Oasis will host cultural events, including an open-air cinema, food truck plaza, and amphitheatre, while the Family Oasis will focus on children’s play zones and rest areas. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Camping Oasis will accommodate 100 caravans and include an educational visitor centre, while the Recreation Oasis will offer a range of activities and retail outlets set within the natural landscape.
This Dhs4 billion project is a key component of Dubai’s Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030, which aims to enhance the emirate's sustainability and quality of life. Commenting on the launch, Sheikh Mohammed stated, “A new tourism addition to our economic sector that we launched today, Al Layan Oasis, spanning 10 million square feet. Centred by a lake covering 2.5 million square feet and including recreational facilities, sports trails, camping areas, and unprecedented desert tourism experiences.”
Al Layan Oasis is designed to be a holistic destination that contributes to physical and mental well-being while strengthening social cohesion. The project offers significant opportunities for private sector investment, with 365,000 square meters available for development. Additionally, the site will include 1,000 parking spaces to ensure accessibility for all residents and tourists seeking a tranquil escape just 50 minutes from the city centre.
